DonateOur mission
To support, inspire, and empower those in need through sports, healthy living, and education.
Our partners
We back programs that leave kids healthier, better educated, more confident, and more aware of what the world has to offer.
The Foundation’s own program, launched in 2015 at PS 86, a Title I school in Kingsbridge Heights in the Bronx. Over sixteen weeks, students learn the science behind hockey, figure skating, speed skating, and curling in the classroom, then put on inline skates in the gym. More than 6,000 students have been through it.
Partner
The New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. Since 1985 it has stood behind the families of New York City police officers, firefighters, Port Authority police, and EMS personnel killed in the line of duty, from the first days after a loss and for the rest of a surviving spouse’s life. It takes no government funding.
Mark serves on its board.

Partner
New York City youth hockey, from 6U Mites to 18U. The Foundation sponsors the North Park Hockey League, its house program for kids just starting out, and the Messier Cup they play for. North Park coaches have also taken Inline-2-Ice students from the Bronx out onto real ice.

How we work
The Foundation raises money and gives it to organizations that are already on the ground and good at this work.
These partners know the kids, the schools, and the neighborhoods. Backing them puts every donation to work right away, where it does the most good.
Mark’s story
“As captain, it’s important that players know who you are, what you stand for, and what your beliefs are.”
Mark Messier played 25 seasons in the NHL and won the Stanley Cup six times, five in Edmonton and once in New York. He remains the only player to captain two different franchises to a championship. Both of those clubs have raised his number 11 to the rafters, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.
In 1994 he guaranteed a Game 6 win over New Jersey, then scored a hat trick to back it up. Weeks later the Rangers won their first Stanley Cup in 54 years.
He has called New York his adopted hometown ever since. In 2007 the NHL created the Mark Messier Leadership Award, given each year to a player who leads on the ice and in the community.

Events
Every fall the Foundation hosts a golf outing at a course in the tri-state area: a round of golf, then lunch and an auction.
